SXSPerformance.com’s Matt Lasher proved that he knows a thing or two about driving off road vehicles this weekend at the Pure Side-X-Side 200. In his first desert race as a professional driver, Matt leaped up to the top step of the podium in convincing fashion. Not only did he win his class by over 2 hours, Matt crossed the finish line with a decisive 6th place finish overall.
Out of the 13 cars entered in the race, Matt outran almost all of them on his way to the finish, and took the win in the Production 850 class over the only other competitor in his category. Matt attributes his success to having a great crew and fantastic equipment. His Kawasaki Teryx ran all 4 laps with absolutely no issues and no flats, making for a pretty stout race from a driver’s perspective. His new GBC Motorsports Mongrel tires played a huge role in this race, giving him plenty of traction to propel him to the finish. Combined, all of these aspects allowed Matt to pull away from the rest of the class on his way to the victory.
The race itself consisted of 4-50 mile laps and started at 4pm on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. When all was said and done, the race had lasted well into the night, 9:30pm to be exact. Coupled with his driving prowess and his seasoned co-driver, Pete Negrete, Matt was able to bring his Teryx across the finish line without a hiccup.
Matt Lasher is showing a great deal of racing maturity, and continues to follow in his father’s footsteps in the off road racing world. He would like to personally thank his family and all of his sponsors (SXSPerformance, GBC Motorsports, OMF Performance, Walker Evans Shocks, and PRP Seats) for giving him this awesome opportunity.
The race marked the first of the series this year, leaving Matt with the unofficial points lead in the Production 850 class going into the second round of the Pure Side-X-Side Off-Road Desert Series. The next round of the Pure Side-X-Side Series will be held in the California Desert once again, but this time it will encompass 300 miles. Be sure to be on the lookout for Matt Lasher and his entire crew as they go for win number 2 on June 21st through the 23rd.
